Energy storage
Why hydrogen?
The potential of renewable energy sources is virtually unlimited, but until now their instability has been a reason for which they could not be fully applied in technological processes. Increasing their share in the global energy mix is indicated as necessary for improving the global climate situation.
The best solution to the problem of discontinuity in supplies of renewable energy is hydrogen. It allows us to store surplus energy produced in periods of surplus and low demand, in order to ensure the continuity of supplies in periods when the production of energy from RES is insufficient in relation to increased demand. This makes it possible to balance the power system and to depart gradually from the use of conventional fuels.
Why us?
The concept of the SES Hydrogen hub includes the construction of a dedicated hydrogen storage facility connected to a fuel cell system. Hydrogen enables long-term storage of large amounts of renewable energy, even for a period of a dozen or so months – none of the alternatives currently available in the market may offer the possibility of storing energy in an equally efficient manner.
Regularity of energy supplies
Clean energy
High efficiency
The operation of hydrogen storage is based on Power-to-Gas technology. The excess production of energy from RES is transferred to the storage in the form of highly compressed hydrogen. In times of shortage, it is taken for the purposes of refuelling stations or reprocessed into electricity using fuel cell technology.
The use of the hydrogen storage in the full-scale concept of the hydrogen hub guarantees regular supplies of clean energy and high efficiency of its storage – when compared to existing alternatives, it provides only minimal hydrogen losses throughout a year, thus enabling the stabilization of the network and providing cities and towns with a departure from the use of high-emission conventional energy, while maintaining the continuity of supplies and full energy security.
